When Does SASSA R350 End? March 2022?
Many are asking “when does SASSA R350 end”, to which the answer is March 2022.
However, there are mounting calls to extend the SASSA relief grant as millions of poor people will be left without any support after the last payment.
SASSA R350 Grant Has Been Extended For Another 12 Months To March 2023
This Was Announced By President Cyril Ramaphosa In His SONA
Therefore, for those asking when does the SASSA relief grant end, there’s every possibility that it will be extended for another cycle.
This is supported by the fact that more than 90% of SASSA SRD grant recipients used their R350 payments mainly to buy food to sustain themselves.
Furthermore, 9 people SASSA SRD beneficiaries from 18 to 59 years old depend on their R350 payment.
And as this demographic receives absolutely no other form of income, they depend solely on these government grants to support themselves.
Therefore, as they have come to depend on these R350 payments, it doesn’t seem as though the government will end them anytime soon.
However, as it stands now, the final SASSA R350 grant payments will be made in March 2022 which is when it was planned to end.

What the Finance Minister Said About the End Of the SASSA SRD Grant
Whilst the Finance Minister, Enoch Godongwana, reiterated that achieving a higher level of economic growth would be a better solution, he did say he would look at extending the R350 grant.
He went on to say, regarding the question to when does SASSA R350 end, that government would investigate the affordability of extending the SRD grant.
He made this statement in his maiden Medium Term Budget Policy Statement (MTBPS) to parliament.
Cosatu’s Response To the Question Of When Does SASSA R350 End?
The largest trade union COSATU has added it’s significant voice to the issue of ending the R350 SRD payments.
Their response to the end of the SASSA R350 grant payments should give beneficiaries of the SRD grant some hope that it will be extended.
This is because COSATU has not only called on the government to extend the R350 SRD grant, but they have also asked for the amount of the grant to be increased.
Furthermore, the trade union would like to see the grant increased to the food poverty line which would see the amount increase from R350 to around R624.
This would be a massive boost for the poor beneficiaries who have no other source of income.
Conclusion On When Does the SASSA R350 End
Considering that over 88% of SASSA SRD grant recipients responded to say that the R350 payments not only had a positive impact on their life, but that they would struggle to survive without it.
Therefore, taking into account what the minister said about looking into extending the SRD grant payments together with COSATU’s call to extend and increase the amount, it seems highly likely that it will be extended at the very least.
There’s also a good chance that not only will the SASSA R350 grant be extended, but it could be increased as well.
This would be excellent news for the millions of SASSA beneficiaries living on the poverty line.
