Massive Social Grant Increases Announced for 2025
A massive SASSA grant increase 2025 was announced by Finance Minister, Enoch Godongwana, in the budget speech 2025 on Wednesday, 12 March.
These social grant increases will all come into effect on 1 April.
Furthermore, a massive old age grant increase will also come your way together with child support grants and others as mentioned below.

Below are all the social grants increases for 2025:
- Old age grant increases by R130 on 1 April to R2 315
- Disability grants will also increase by R130
- Child support grant increases by R30 to R560
- Foster care grant will also increases by R70
- Covid-19 Social Relief of Distress Grant – R370
SASSA R350 SRD Grant
As far as the SRD grant goes, Godongwana confirmed that it would be extended for another year to March 2026 and would remain at R370.

SASSA Grant Increase From 2023 and Beyond
Considering that the total number of grant recipients in South Africa is expected to increase by 1,5% on average, the total of grant dependents in the country will rise to a staggering 19.2 million beyond 2023.
As the fiscus is already under pressure to fund everything from Eskom and to most of the SOEs, it remains to be seen as to how SASSA will be able to fund this demand.
Financially speaking, it will be an almost an impossible task to not only meet the growing demand of grant beneficiaries but to provide annual grant increases will be very difficult.
